So what essential oils should one use? According to an article by Erin Doman, she states that chamomile, tea tree oil, lavender, basil, peppermint, and Eucalyptus and Lemon Eucalyptus are the top essential oils to help relieve allergies. Chamomile is known for bringing a calming effect, but in terms of treating allergies it helps with nasal congestion and as mentioned all essential oils function as an anti-inflammatory. Peppermint is great for relieving coughs. We are all familiar with it as being an herbal tea. Its been used to help digestion, but more importantly it works as an antibacterial. Eucalyptus is known for helping with stuffy noses as it maintains a cool feeling when you inhale. Lastly, it helps the body clear mucus.
Basil is great for fighting respiratory issues and ear infections. In addition, it helps fight against food illnesses. Tea Tree oil has become a very popular essential oil for treating such things like acne. It is an effective way to decrease allergens. It has also been said to help with oral care. Last but not least, Lavender just like tea tree oil helps with acne and has been a helpful aid for insomnia. It is essential for treating skin reactions and allergic reactions as well as big bites. The benefits of essential oil are “apart from the specific symptoms they may treat — is their use in cases where antibiotics may not be suitable due to antibiotic resistance.” (Doman). Essential oils are so constructive, because they contain the added effect of maintaining calmness with individuals. It soothes and relaxes the body, which is an added advantage. If you are one who is pro natural remedies and looking for an alternative to relieving symptoms of allergies, this is definitely the way to go.
