Aaron Hernandez CTE reports!

Aaron Hernandez according to the latest of news had stage 3 CTE, per attorney Jose Baez. His brain was studied at Boston University. It is also in news that the family will sue the NFL and the Patriots. Evidently, there are four stages of CTE, and stage 4 is the most severe.

What’s the backstory?

Aaron Hernandez, the former New England Patriots player committed suicide in April while doing a life sentence for murder. But the story today is that he was found to have a serious type of C.T.E., the degenerative brain disease that is associated with repetitive head injury. What makes matters more interesting is that it has been found in more than 100 past NFL players. Analysts at Boston University who investigated the brain came to the conclusion that it was the nearly the most serious case they had ever witnessed with someone of the age of 27.

C.T.E., or chronic traumatic encephalopathy, can be identified only post-obituary. Hernandez is the most current past NFL player to have taken his own life and then been diagnosed with C.T.E. Some other former football players joining Aaron are Dave Duerson, Junior Seau, Andre Waters, Ray Easterling and Jovan Belcher, among others. Seau and Duerson shot themselves in the chest probably so that analysts would have the capability to investigate their brains. With Hernandez, he hung himself in his own prison cell.

Other players with CTE

Seau, Duerson and Waters were all older than Aaron, past the age of 40, while Hernandez is one of the youngest former NFL players to have had C.T.E. In July, analysts at Boston University discharged information that showed that they had found C.T.E. in the brains of 110 of the 111 past N.F.L. players they had looked at.

The fact that Aaron Hernandez had advanced C.T.E. is tragic. All in all, the NFL must address this devastating occupational health hazard for all its players and do it immediately. It is also tragic that Aaron received the worst case of C.T.E. at his age. It is no wonder now why he took his own life as he probably couldn’t deal with the situation. It is also important that fans address their relationship to the NFL.

Controversy

But controversy still lies in the fact that he still killed someone. Does him having CTE make it okay to murder someone? But let’s also take into consideration that the brain chooses to murder. His brain was damaged, so yes, CTE played a part. But does that make him not guilty by reason of insanity or is he still responsible in the murder? Overall, they can only check for CTE on the dead. Plus, Aaron has always been violent so it is plausible that CTE exacerbated it.

Some things to know about the colour yellow

Some of the best things in life are yellow. Why do I say this? Well because it is true. Think about it logically. Think about things that are yellow. Eggs on the inside are yellow. Eggs bring us nourishment and protein. Something that is very important and that we need in our bodies to survive and live a healthy life. Lets face it, who doesn’t love eggs in the morning?

facts-left-egg.png

Another thing that is yellow and that is good for us is the sun. The sun gives us vitamin D. Vitamin D is something that many people are lacking in their bodies. So one of the best ways to gain vitamin D is by being outside. The sun provides health benefits as it keeps your bones strong. That’s because your body produces vitamin D when exposed to the sun. The sunshine vitamin assists the body to absorb calcium, which is essential for bone health. Lastly, adults who get sunlight early in the day are prone to have a lower body mass index, a measure that takes into account weight and height.

One of the prettiest flowers out there is the daisy that has yellow in it. Many are unaware that daisies represent purity and innocence and that a daisy is actually two flowers in one. Another fun fact about daises is that the leaves are edible. And Last but definitely not least, daises have lots of medicinal properties. They are thought to relieve indigestion and coughs. So the next time you come across a daisy remember these facts. It’s not uncommon for people to associate the colour yellow with brightness so it makes sense that it is recognized through nourishment.

Women, gender and tennis

Three major competitions; Wimbledon, The Rogers Cup, and The US Open are always major talk in the sports industry. I believe tennis to be a very active and exciting sport to watch on television. Although it may not involve as much contact as hockey, basketball, or baseball the quality that makes it stand out from the other sports mentioned are that women are participating and getting recognition in sports.
I believe it is great that we get to watch women participate in sporting events, because it shows that women can do anything that men can do. There has been the biased opinion that women’s tennis is one dimensional, and outside of the norm. I believe this to be false on so many levels. I have watched many stellar women athletes like Serena Williams who plays with aggression, and perfection. I have come to the conclusion that professional athletes like Serena Williams or Maria Sharpova being in the sport as long as they have been, they have the ability to read their opponents weak points. This also applies to players like Madison Keys and Sloane Stephens.
In addition, they are able to win matches by using their strong points. As I have continued to watch tennis I have come across an issue that has surprised me, but at the same time hasn’t. We would think coming into the year 2017, where women have come so far into the world of sports that both men and women’s tennis would be at the same level of difficulty. I have noticed that men have to play one extra set in tournaments in order to advance to the next round. I find this to be demeaning to women.
Although some might argue that it seems that men play more, because of the stereotype that they are stronger and that they can handle more, I find this to go against everything that equality has brought to society and to women. Wimbledon tennis used to be only men and now that has changed so I’m sure there is more room for change with women and tennis. Allowing best of fives for women would not only boost athleticism, but it would push athletes to work harder and allow them to want to accomplish more in their career.

Shapovalov qualifies for U.S. Open

Many are eager to witness the talent from Denis Shapovalov. He wowed many at the Rogers Cup and he continued to amaze people as he beat Jan Satral to get himself a spot in the U.S. Open. Many could get used to seeing that one-handed backhand that is so crisp. Rallying from behind to beat an opponent is always impressive as it shows drive, passion, hard work and determination in the game of tennis.
He`s in

Shapovalov has safely navigated the qualifying rounds and will play in the Main Draw of the U.S. Open tennis match next week. Many haven`t been this excited for a slam in a while. It is always great to see young talent competing in sports. His incredible August will continue as history often repeats itself.

Shapovalov is without question a pleasant surprise among tennis players. What`s so great about Shapovalov is that he is fun and entertaining to watch. He wears his emotions on his sleeve and he is very athletic. Denis is thankful for the support that he has received yesterday from many as this is a dream come true for him.

Some things we should know about Shapovalov

Although Denis is a tennis player, his favorite sport is hockey. Denis loves hockey and he claimed that if he was not playing tennis he would have gotten into hockey. So you can imagine how excited he must have been to see and meet Wayne Gretsky as he was in the crowd at the Rogers Cup. Another thing that is good to know about Denis is that he grew up idealizing Roger Federer. When Denis found out that Roger said he loved watching him play, you can imagine how happy that must have made him .

Another fun fact that many should know is that he started playing tennis at the age of five years old. Last but not least, Denis is only the second Canadian to win the Wimbledon singles boys title, which is very impressive.

Summer stays hot for El Shapo

The 69th ranked youngster was seeded second in the draw thanks to his outstanding performance at the Rogers Cup that took place in Montreal. Many remember it as a time where he beat Rafael Nadal and Juan Del Potro. It allowed him to make it to a semi-final appearance, which was impressive. Denis will be performing in his very first U.S. Open and second career Grand Slam.

He will join Bouchard of Westmout, Quebec and Vasek Pospisil from Vancouver. Overall, the moral of the story is watch out for this younger as he will surprise you with his skills, talent, physique and drive. He won`t give up without putting up a battle and fight.

Local EDM group Tennyson is flying high

Are you wondering where the Canadian EDM talent lies in 2017?  Normally EDM artists fly solo, but with this dynamic duo, working alone is no option. This Canadian brother-sister act that can turn anything into music. The duo (Luke and Tess) are from Edmonton, Canada.  This teenage brother-sister duo is packed with immense musical flair and skills. Luke, 20, and Tess, 18, they make look angelic but they sure can put on a show. Luke writes the syncopated tunes, and Tess provides mind-numbing live percussion. A girl on drums is so kick-ass is it not? Skrillex is apparently a big fan of the duo, which is great for them trying to get to make it big in the EDM scene. Luke is heading to Los Angeles this year to get as creative as he can, so you can absolutely be expecting big sounds from Tennyson.

Luke and Tess- dynamic duo

edm

Luke and Tess a brother and sister act from Canada started busking the streets of Edmonton at ages of seven and nine, which is pretty amazing. They have gradually but surely matured into one of the most eccentric artists in the music scene with their blend of Jazz music and electronica gaining attention of producers like Ryan Hemsworth, Lido and as mentioned Skrillex. What makes them stand out is that they don’t sing about anything – their music is instrumental. It is wildly active, full of keyboard play and arpeggios. It is also very authentic sounding, which doesn’t make them imitators. As Emerson has said, imitation is suicide. Let’s face it; do we really need another David Guetta or Tiesto? Many artists these days are sampling other artist’s tracks and even though it is allowed it lacks originality.

Their sound

edm2

The duo are known to use that really rather exasperating tone, in the structure of a loop, which is a repeating section of sound material. It creates repetitive ostinato patterns. As the basis for what is a very pleasant electronic lullaby. It is ultimately up to the listener and their taste or preference, but you will either find it annoying or compulsive and addicting. Or it will make you want to go for a ride (but fasten your seat-belt first).

The duo posted it on SoundCloud hoping that the song would spark a reminder for people to slow down. At times gloominess can be picturesque. So far, because of their age, they have not always been taken seriously: “It’s like the Series of Unfortunate events siblings started an electronica band,” according to one review. Or they’ve been greeted with an applause, as people should. Young talent is emerging these days and it will continue to.

 Started at a young age

 edm3

As mentioned, the brother sister team apparently started busking in Edmonton from the age of seven and nine, playing fronts of tunes by the Beatles, Coldplay and Weezer. That is undeniably amazing as those are some outstanding and exceptionally supported groups. When Luke was 12 they had recorded two collections of jazz music. At that point in 2012, he created his initially arrival of unique (electronic) material, and this year he chose to join his adoration for jazz and electronica, with his sister on drums. Combining two genres isn’t something that is totally out of the ordinary. Many successful artists have done it. Look at Avicii- he combined country and electronica, and it was genius.

Tennyson’s Influences

edm4

It is always important to look at an artist’s influences, it tells a lot about their character, flare and their sound. Flying Lotus is one of Luke’s influences – along with Aphex Twin, Boards of Canada, Bonobo, and James Blake. In contemporary electronic music inspiration can come from anywhere. Sites like Soundcloud are loaded with craftsmen who draw on a number of impacts and thoughts to make something that they can call their own. However, Edmonton electronic act Tennyson emerge just on the grounds that they are the principal gathering to concede their sound may have started from the world’s most prominent purple dinosaur—Barney.

Subliminally [Barney’s Sleepy time Songs] influenced their music. They really found these old VHS tapes of when they were close to nothing and Luke was absolutely into Barney endeavoring to chime in, yet his mouth wasn’t created enough to state the words. Not that it’s a worry with the couple, as words regularly change into tests against Luke’s testy synths.

Originating from a group of traditionally prepared artists, Luke (creation) and sister Tess (drums/percussion) have dependably been entertainers. Tess says the two began playing piano and drums as meager children busking in the city of Edmonton, covering melodies by Weezer and Nirvana. “The first occasion when we played together, I was seven and he was nine, and we’ve been playing together from that point onward, to the point where it just feels normal,” says Tess. That is crude ability in that spot, as should be obvious they both knew this was their obsession and profession from the beginning.

As they developed into adolescents, they took their first shot at a full venture, discharging jazz cover collections. Luke would likewise soon begin fiddling with electronic music. The electronic genre was something Luke was improving.  The situation was an afterthought and afterward he got increasingly into it and figured out how to function in the jazz music him and his sister have been improving.

Affected by any semblance of Boards of Canada and Radiohead, Tennyson began combining jazz with darker tones at long last discharging their 2012 self-titled presentation and the Blamer EP not long after. Both went generally unnoticed. Underrated, the team focused on their own sound while discharging a constant flow of new tracks on SoundCloud, in the end getting the consideration of maker Ryan Hemsworth with the moving merry go round and smooth midi keys on their remix of Angus and Julia Stone’s “For You.” Taken aback by the energy of their melodic creations, Hemsworth put Tennyson’s track “You’re Cute” as the first in his month to month Secret Songs arrangement.

What makes Toronto good/bad for EDM?

edm5.jpg

In the world of electronic dance music, summer is high season. It consistently brings another celebration. The show starts in May and manufactures, similar to a crashing EDM track, into a touchy peak: the Veld Music Festival, a monster two-day bacchanal that colonizes Downsview Park each August. A year ago, almost 40,000 individuals pressed into the recreation center for the all-ages EDM celebration.

Ink Entertainment, the occasion coordinator, had enlisted 40 medical staff, eight EMS laborers, one MD, four ambulances, 280 security protects, 15 security chiefs and 26 paid obligation officers to stay nearby for the length. A proportion that shook out to around 130 shouting, stoned ravers for each calm grown-up. There were armies of tanked adolescents furnished with fake IDs, yet the more serious issue was the drug use: the celebration was overflowing with GHB, MDMA and cocaine. Throughout the end of the week, no less than 15 individuals took something that landed them in the doctor’s facility, and two kicked the bucket of overdoses.

One was Annie Truong-Le, a truly, petite 20-year-old poli-sci major at York University, who took something at Veld. She lost cognizance, was raced to a clinic and never woke up. The other was Willard Amurao, a burly 22-year-old Ajax man, who likewise took drugs at Veld. Police spotted him stumbling out and immediately called for EMS. Police bounded him to a stretcher. He went into heart failure in the rescue vehicle and was articulated dead at the healing facility.

Examination reports uncovered that both Truong-Le and Amurao had taken MDMA. This goes to show you that EDM has a bad reputation and label with drugs, but this is because EDM music maintains a relationship with the party scene. This doesn’t mean that people have to do drugs or that EDM music has to be established as negative. People can and should go to Veld to enjoy the music and not to experiment with drugs. These events are meant to celebrate and enjoy the music and to unite with others. It should be a joyous time and not where people are overdosing on drugs.

They Can’t Slow Down

edm6.jpg

Luke and Tess have been playing music for as long as they can remember. Their dad, a drummer, impacted them to seek after the workmanship as children, playing jazz, blues, and works of art like the Beatles, and busking around town. For Luke, making music fell into place without any issues. As you would expect, he began seeking it at such a youthful age.

Before Luke grew up and had this attention to himself, he had these aptitudes. Tess joined Tennyson in her mid-teens. With Luke on production and console and Tess on drums, the band’s music recounts a story without words.

After the couple started posting their music on Soundcloud more than four years back, they increased such a following, that Ryan Hemsworth, a Toronto-based electronic performer and maker, discovered their music and imparted it to his supervisor, who wound up lifting the team up. As indicated by Luke and Tess, the Internet is truly what’s been in charge of their prosperity. Social media is such a power medium these days. It is great for marketing, sharing, communicating and advertising. As Marshall McLuhan said “The medium is the message.”

Life Lesson 101

What is the point of surviving in this world if we don’t bring any meaning in our lives? We live to work towards something. We work to set goals and then accomplish them. We have passion and drive for particular things in our lives. But something obviously motivated us to bring us to that passion.

Life is filled with both good and bad. In order to appreciate the good or experience true happiness, we must experience failure and sadness. Perfect examples of issues that many people face are with work, relationship struggles or just a lack of self-confidence.

When these types of situations come up, it’s easy to fall into the trap of self-doubt, and negativity and feel like giving up. The result is that it feels like there is no silver lining and you feel like you are surrounded by this fogginess and lacking any stimulation or incentive to move forward.

Now it is never fun or fair to be in this situation, but for many it happens and it is a part of life. So if you find yourself stuck in this trap, an easy and creative way to help get yourself out of this black hole, is to read inspirational sayings and quotes. Words can be so powerful and uplifting. They are like little reminders that can help you move forward when you are feeling down or get stuck in negativity. Thinking negative is normal, but shouldn’t consume your mind or your thoughts.

The most important part is that the people that have written these quotes, you will respect what they have to say and what they have struggled with. It will show you that if they conquer so can you.

So to put a little kick in your day here are a couple of the best inspirational words, sayings and quotes. They’ll inspire and motivate you, help you achieve what you thought was unlikely, and enable you to tackle life’s challenges.

The best inspirational saying and quotes:

1. “If you can’t fly then run. If you can’t run then walk. If you can’t walk then crawl. But whatever you do, you have to keep moving forward”- Martin Luther King Jr.

2. “Life can only be understood backwards but it must be lived forwards”- Soren Kierkegaard.

3. “The more real you get the more unreal the world gets.”- John Lennon

4. “My definition of stupid is wasting your opportunity to be yourself, because I think everyday has a uniqueness and everybody’s good at something.” – Pink

5. “The solution to sadness is not to look at it as a negative. The solution to sadness is understanding it. The solution to sadness is listening to it and walking it out of your heart the same way that it walked in. You can’t expect it to overtake you by walking in, and to leave by disappearing. It took steps in. It needs to take steps out.” – Najwa Zebian

13 Reasons Why: The Hard Truth

13 Reasons Why has become a trending and popular show on Netflix. Unraveling the heartache and pain of what it is like to be mistreated. How bullying and torment can drive people to a point of hopelessness.

Mental health continues to be a huge issue in the world as it affects many teens and young adults. It has become so huge that celebrity and singer Selena Gomez decided to co-produce a Netflix series called 13 Reasons Why. The show is about a girl named Hannah Baker who commits suicide and before she does she decides to record 13 tapes pertaining to the 13 reasons why she chose to end her life. Many people are probably unaware that Selena Gomez suffered from depression, so by being the executive producer of this series she obviously wanted to spread awareness about the issue as it was something that was close to her heart.

The Truth

For those who haven’t seen it or are thinking about seeing it, it is not an easy show to watch, as the content is also not an easy subject. It’s a thriller, it’s tear jerking, suspenseful, graphic, and of course it’s depressing. I’m sure many people who have been scrolling through Netflix and came across this show probably didn’t watch it, because of the content. That is completely understandable, some people can’t handle this type of criteria. Even I had second doubts as I thought it might corrupt my mind or affect me in a bad way. But it didn’t. Of course it was hard to watch, but I am a big supporter of everything and anything to do with mental health so I understand that the show is trying to promote awareness not only about suicide, but in how you should treat people.

It is reality. I think at the end of it all it is how you handle it. I think people should watch it. Many people go through bullying, so in today’s world you need to have a backbone to survive. You can’t hide from your problems and you can’t hide from things that are happening in this world. The show gives a clear scenario and shows the aftermath of decisions we make and how they will follow you. It’s not all negative, as the show showcased that resources of help were available, just that they were not used. Also, the show can be insightful showing others that if they are going through a rough time but not as bad as the one Hannah faced, then they should be grateful and realize that suicide isn’t the answer. Lastly, the show can be a marker of what not to do, kind of like reverse psychology.

Of course for anyone who is struggling with suicide, bullying, sexual assaults etc. it might be best to think twice before watching the show. I only say this as it can be triggering. The tub scene where Hannah kills herself is very graphic and hard to watch. If someone is going through one of the matters mentioned above, watching it might set them off in a negative way. Obviously that is not the intention of the show, as it is meant to stay true to the real life complications of suicide, but it is advised as a warning to be wary of the subject matter. And the message obviously isn’t to commit suicide.

Bullying is another major issue in the show and in today’s world should not be overlooked or ignored. Driving someone to the point of suicide is horrible and that’s what the message of the show is. How hard high school can be for some people. High school can be hard enough as it is, so why make it any harder for someone? Although the show is fictional, it is non-fictional in the sense that it is based on true life events that occur. So the next time you think it is okay to call someone a slut and that it won’t affect them, think again.

Don’t Suffer In Silence

Another prevailing notion and huge message in this film is that you shouldn’t be afraid to tell the truth. A major issue with mental health or with bullying is that people have trouble talking about it, and choose to remain in silence. Hannah Baker at many times in the show decides to withhold information. She doesn’t tell her parents that she is being bullied at school. She doesn’t tell Mr. Porter that she was raped by Bryce, when he confronts her about it. She doesn’t tell anybody that her friend Jessica was raped. She doesn’t call 911 or tell anybody that the stop sign was was run over. In my opinion, if Hannah didn’t choose to keep quiet about all of these things, it possibly would of avoided her decision to end her life. She chose not to seek help when she needed it the most. It could of helped her and prevented a lot of mayhem. Hannah inevitably had her reasons for ending her life, but maybe if she would of reached out, then maybe she would of had better reason to live.

It wasn’t that Hannah grew up in a bad home, but her parents were obviously struggling to make ends meet and that did affect her in some shape or form. Also, that her parents had no idea what she was going through. She never expressed grief, sadness, or anger around her parents. It obviously wasn’t the best decision for Hannah to leave out the details of her school life, but maybe she didn’t tell them, because she knew they had their own problems going on.

Suicide Isn’t Selfish

How many times have you heard the phrase “suicide is selfish.” It’s selfish, because you’re not thinking of the people you are leaving behind. How your emotionally killing your family and the ones that cared about you. Ultimately, although this is true, and looking from Hannah’s perspective as well, she wasn’t focusing on that. Many people believe they are doing their loved ones a favour. I believe that Hannah felt that she was a burden to her parents. Although she didn’t tell her parents of everything that was going on, maybe she felt if she did that it would of drove them to heartache. So she felt she was better off disappearing. According to Thought Catalog, “It’s time we stop calling a mental disconnect a personality flaw. Being selfish, in our society, is generally seen as a bad thing. So when you call suicide selfish, you’re calling it a bad thing. And it is, but not for the reasons you are implying.” Suicide without question is horrible, emotional, and dreadful. But “someone who ends their life is going through a mental struggle we should feel blessed and lucky to not understand.”
